COURSE / EXAM REGISTRATIONS - NOUN GUIDE

COURSE / EXAM REGISTRATIONS

The Open University of Nigeria is not like conventional universities where everything is strict. As a matter of fact, flexibility is the watchword of the institution. In NOUN student are required to pay for the course and exam registrations. The price of a course is determined by the credit unit of such course.  They are as follows:

CREDIT UNITS

 PRICE (NAIRA)
One unit (mostly practical)
1,000
Two units
2,000
Three units
2,500
Four units (mostly  law)
3,000

Simply put, courses are like subjects u are required to take in each semester and they comprise 2 and  3 credit units. Some practicals in the science department are 1 unit while some law courses carry 4 credit units.
The maximum unit a student can register per semester is 25 units. It is not compulsory that a student must register all the courses meant for him/her in a semester but it is strongly advisable to try and register all.

Take for instance:
Let assume that I was meant to register 10 (ten) courses in my 100 level first semester but was able to register 6 may be due to financial reason. This means that I have a deficit of 4 courses in that semester. Now in the second semester, I am required to register 8 plus the initial 4, it becomes 12 (don't forget that there may be carryover) now it has compounded. The workload will be much if I am able to register all. If I am unable, the deficit continues and as such, I may end up spending more than the years I am supposed to.
Please try as much as possible to avoid this, it is one of the core reasons many students drop out.

·        Undergraduates exam fee cost N1,000 (One Thousand Naira only) for each course.
·        Post-graduates exam fee is N2,000 (Two Thousand Naira only) for each course.
·         Ph.D. examination fee is N3,000 (Three Thousand Naira only) per course.

If you have carryover you will repay when re-sitting. If you register an exam and miss it, maybe due to one thing or the other, you will repay whenever you want to sit for it.
Ph.D. re-sitting is N4,000 (Four Thousand Naira only) per course
.

Note: You can only register the exams of the courses you registered.

    1. No. You need to register ur first semester course before proceeding to the next. Always know that the school's academic semesters count does not interferes with yours. What I mean is that because the school is in its first or second semester in a given year does not also mandate you to be on this same page. Just know that any two semester you finish marks your own session.

  5. Enter your comment...Hi admin, I am a new student, I noticed the registration officer added a second semester course in my first semester, would that be any problem? if no, would I need to do same course in my second semester? thirdly he registered two electives for me making it 6 units, do I need to do another elective in the second semester or I can replace it with a compulsory course ?

    ReplyDelete
  6. --- No, that is not a problem.
--- You do not need to do it in 2nd semester.
--- If the two electives are for 1st and 2nd semesters then you do not need to do any other elective in the 2nd semester but, if both are for either of the semesters you will have to make up for one of the semesters by registering another elective course.

    1. To start with, I suppose u mean 10 courses and not 10 units because I doubt it if the total units of the courses u have to register in ur first semester is only 10 (no matter the program) unless u did not register all ur courses.

You cannot take all the courses both first and second semester at the same time. The system will not allow it. There is maximum units of courses you can register during the exam.

My candid advice is that you should first clear all your first semester courses when portal reopens before proceeding to the next.

I know issue like this is always disheartening cos I have been there. Imaging having to pay another 18k to register the exams in which u ought to have sat for and as well waste a semester for just the issue of rrr which is not ur fault but that of the managements'. Just see it as one of those things that happens in life that we cannot change. Do not let it weigh you down and make sure you are reading ahead.

    1. Gst 301 should be for 1st semester and 302 for second. You must sit for both as non of them can be waived.

    1. The "2" simply implies the second semester in 2019 academic session. You do not have to bother about that just go ahead and do your registration in accordance to your semester. In the registration area just register the courses that for the first semesters only.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think the maximum credit you can register per semester is 25. However this is only applicable to exam registrations.

What I mean is that even if you registered more the required units during course registration all you need do is to exclude some the courses registered when registering the exams.

You can then register the excluded ones in subsequent semester(s).

Courses are only registered once irrespective of the period.

I'm a P.GD student of NOUN, Uyo center.

I missed my GST 707 today which now makes it 4 total missed exams but all TMAs done Completely which now means incomplete result for the 4 courses.

Sir pls, will I be allowed to carry over all the 4 courses to next semester and now register 11 courses that semester?

Or I just pay and seat for the 4 missed exams and then prepare for my next regular semester?

I can handle and register for all though. Thanks.
