COURSE / EXAM REGISTRATIONS - NOUN GUIDE

COURSE / EXAM REGISTRATIONS

The Open University of Nigeria is not like conventional universities where everything is strict. As a matter of fact, flexibility is the watchword of the institution. In NOUN student are required to pay for the course and exam registrations. The price of a course is determined by the credit unit of such course.  They are as follows:

CREDIT UNITS

 PRICE (NAIRA)
One unit (mostly practical)
1,000
Two units
2,000
Three units
2,500
Four units (mostly  law)
3,000

Simply put, courses are like subjects u are required to take in each semester and they comprise 2 and  3 credit units. Some practicals in the science department are 1 unit while some law courses carry 4 credit units.
The maximum unit a student can register per semester is 25 units. It is not compulsory that a student must register all the courses meant for him/her in a semester but it is strongly advisable to try and register all.

Take for instance:
Let assume that I was meant to register 10 (ten) courses in my 100 level first semester but was able to register 6 may be due to financial reason. This means that I have a deficit of 4 courses in that semester. Now in the second semester, I am required to register 8 plus the initial 4, it becomes 12 (don't forget that there may be carryover) now it has compounded. The workload will be much if I am able to register all. If I am unable, the deficit continues and as such, I may end up spending more than the years I am supposed to.
Please try as much as possible to avoid this, it is one of the core reasons many students drop out.

·        Undergraduates exam fee cost N1,000 (One Thousand Naira only) for each course.
·        Post-graduates exam fee is N2,000 (Two Thousand Naira only) for each course.
·         Ph.D. examination fee is N3,000 (Three Thousand Naira only) per course.

If you have carryover you will repay when re-sitting. If you register an exam and miss it, maybe due to one thing or the other, you will repay whenever you want to sit for it.
Ph.D. re-sitting is N4,000 (Four Thousand Naira only) per course
.

Note: You can only register the exams of the courses you registered.

    1. To be candid I think it will result in futile efforts. This is because you will not be allowed to write the exams since you did not register them and as such will not expect results which will stall you from moving ahead. In a nut shell it will become a wasted money and semester. Though you will not repay course registrations in the following semester but you will surely pay the compulsory 18k before registering the exams.

Honestly, I think it is better to skip the semester entirely than to arrive in this kind of situation.

      Thanks,
      Admin.

  6. Kindly hold on for exam registrations for now. It seems the system is malfunctioning. So just go and get your materials and start reading, you can always register your exam later.

    1. You have two options which are :

      1. You can go and meet your ICT admin at your study center he/she will help you drop one of the courses and the money will be reverted.

      2. You can generate another RRR and complete your registration if you wish to keep two courses but mind you, once the portal closes you will not be able to drop any of the courses next semester.

The ball in in your court but, I will advice you drop one of the courses.

    1. You will definitely pay the 18k every that you want to do anything that is related to registration, Be it course or exam. Go ahead and register the project if you have enough money. It is only exam registrations that restricts credit units.

    1. When you login to your portal click course registration and choose your appropriate level and semester. It will load the appropriate courses you are to register for that semester. The ones with "C" are compulsory while those with "E" are electives. First select all your compulsory before making options for the electives. Your elective must be at least 3 credit units.

If you don't have a singe 3 credit unit in the electives you will have to register for two different courses with 2 credit units.

Do not hesitate to call me on this number 08033066819 if you need any help. I will be glad to help you.

    1. No. You need to register ur first semester course before proceeding to the next. Always know that the school's academic semesters count does not interferes with yours. What I mean is that because the school is in its first or second semester in a given year does not also mandate you to be on this same page. Just know that any two semester you finish marks your own session.

Enter your comment...Hi admin, I am a new student, I noticed the registration officer added a second semester course in my first semester, would that be any problem? if no, would I need to do same course in my second semester? thirdly he registered two electives for me making it 6 units, do I need to do another elective in the second semester or I can replace it with a compulsory course ?

    ReplyDelete
  24. --- No, that is not a problem.
--- You do not need to do it in 2nd semester.
--- If the two electives are for 1st and 2nd semesters then you do not need to do any other elective in the 2nd semester but, if both are for either of the semesters you will have to make up for one of the semesters by registering another elective course.

    1. To start with, I suppose u mean 10 courses and not 10 units because I doubt it if the total units of the courses u have to register in ur first semester is only 10 (no matter the program) unless u did not register all ur courses.

You cannot take all the courses both first and second semester at the same time. The system will not allow it. There is maximum units of courses you can register during the exam.

My candid advice is that you should first clear all your first semester courses when portal reopens before proceeding to the next.

I know issue like this is always disheartening cos I have been there. Imaging having to pay another 18k to register the exams in which u ought to have sat for and as well waste a semester for just the issue of rrr which is not ur fault but that of the managements'. Just see it as one of those things that happens in life that we cannot change. Do not let it weigh you down and make sure you are reading ahead.

  46. Hello Admin,
    Good Morning.

    Please kindly advice

I was scheduled to take my final semester exams in the current ongoing exam.

Unfortunately, I missed TWO paper yesterday which was the first day of exam.

I only have SEVEN papers which means there is still FIVE more to go minus PROJECT.

    I am considering TWO options

    1. Avoid all the exams and do them next semester
This will allow me be in better shape for the final lap.

    2. Continue with the remaining FIVE papers and rewrite the missed papers next semester
This will definitely not be easy for me considering the current state of my mind.

Please kindly orientate me on the implication of these TWO options and the necessary steps to take in working on them.

You can also help if there is a third or fourth option.

Please I need your reply ASAP because my next paper is on Friday if i choose to go ahead.

    Many thanks in anticipation.

Since you said you are not in good shape I think you should skip the exams because you really need to be sound while writing exams besides, you have missed two so there is no need for hasting. Just leave everything till next semester. Absent is better than carryover.

I can't write the 2 as both are been written same time and day.
Please what can I do to drop one of the courses.

    1. Your only option is to sit for both exams because dropping of courses has ended. And you cannot drop the course you register in one semester in another semester. If you skip one of the paper you must still write it before graduating.

On the day of the exam let the invigilator or staff know you have a clash of papers they know how to handle such case. Also make sure you are fully prepare for both papers. Good luck.
